NDS Game Review: Geometry Wars: Galaxies

Geometry Wars: Galaxies Box Cover Late last year, a coworker of mines was playing this crazy game on his computer where shapes of all different types were colliding on the screen. The few minutes I spent watching him play made me both confused and nauseous.

The nausea didn’t quelch my interest in the game, however. When a version came out for the Nintendo DS, I leaped at the chance and grabbed one for myself. I haven’t played the original so I don’t have any comparisons to make between the current and the one from before.

Movie Review: Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

walk_hard.jpg

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story is a borderline decent movie to watch.  The satirical film is based off “I Walk the Line”, a movie about Johnny Cash.  It may even make you laugh once or twice.  I didn’t particularly enjoy the movie.  The movie is based on the trials and tribulations of Dewey Cox from a young boy to an old man.  Lame jokes filled in the rest of the gaps.

Three reoccurring themes of humor are prevalent throughout the movie: Dewey cut his brother in half,  Dewey lost his sense of smell, and Dewey doing drugs.  The first two get boring real fast, yet it gets brought up again and again.  The drug scenes are funny only because of Tim Meadows’ performance.

Clam Chowder Heaven or Hell?

Yesterday, I had lunch at Boudins, a bakery/cafe on 2nd and Market which serves salad, sandwiches, and soups. I’ve only been to the place once before and had the clam chowder in a bread bowl. It tasted pretty good before so I didn’t hesitate to order it again.

I didn’t realize that moment would be the cause of my downfall.

The clam chowder tasted good again, the bread was chewy and the butter tasted like real butter.

However, not less than a few hours later I had to visit the potty. This trend continued for much of the day and late into the night. I had been fighting off the onset of a cold for much of the week and the lack of sleep did not help at all.

Being sick just plain sucks.

I may avoid Boudins in the future, even though it may not be their food. But, usually, once I have one bad experience, I avoid the place like the plague.

Movie Review: There Will Be Blood

twbb.jpgThere Will Be Blood is a thinking man’s movie. It can be described as powerful, poetic, and dramatic. It has won a bunch of awards across the world. Movie goers have rewarded the movie with a 8.5 rating on IMDb and a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Then why did I find it so lackluster?

The movie started off slow. The first ten minutes or so of the movie had no dialogue. I found that boring and confusing. The only thing I got out of the beginning was that this movie is about oil. If they wanted to show the viewer oil, there are plenty of other ways of doing it that does not take up ten minutes.

Frobie Shop Online

The Frobie Shop is now online.

I signed up for an Amazon affiliate a long, long time ago when Frobie.com was originally a listing of free after rebate products. When I lost my direction in terms of improving and marketing the website, the Amazon account drifted away into limbo. I didn’t have any use for the account and the hassle involved in closing down the account took much too long.

But now, the account has been resurrected.

It’s alive, ALIVE!!

Movie Review: Stardust

stardust.jpgStardust is a surprisingly good movie. I don’t remember seeing anything about this movie in 2007, so I watched it not knowing what to expect. Turns out, that made for a better viewing experience.

This movie is a medieval fantasy tale about a fallen star and the ensuing chase to obtain the powers to be had from the star. The movie includes all the classic fantasy elements, such as magic spells, evil witch sisters, royal siblings assassinating each other to be the next king, and a metro sky captain of an airship.

Pet Peeve #5

I was standing in a crowded bus this morning in front of the outward facing seats. The person sitting down got up to leave at her stop. In this type of situation, I let anyone sit down out of courtesy. Although grateful, some people are not considerate in return.

They take the seat but sit on the very edge. Doing so, their legs stick out into the path, right where I am standing. Need I remind everyone, the bus was packed as it is every morning. Standing room is scarce and a little bit of balance is lost when the handholds required further stretching to reach.

I noticed that mostly asians do this, usually old ones but the younger ones seem to copying them more often now. They would sit down on the very edge of the seat for five minutes, then slide back until they fully fill out the seat.

The question though is why? Are they worried that the ass heat from the previous occupant would affect them in a negative manner? Is it a healthier way to sit? Is a paganistic ritual designed to ward off evil spirits?!

Ghosts Own the Night

Last night was freaky scary.

Around 2:30am, I was lying in bed playing Neves on the DS. Then I heard two distinct voices scream out. One was crooning off-key while the other was wailing in sorrow. The two voices clashed and the volume rose as they became more distressed.

I lept out of bed and scrambled to the window. This was a once in a lifetime event; seeing ghosts, that is.

I looked to the right. Nothing.

I looked to the left. Nothing.

Maybe my ears were playing tricks on me. The night was absolutely silent.

I climbed back into bed and the voices came back at an even louder decibel. They were angry. The crooning became shouts; the wailing became cries.

I was tempted to take a look; but, I was afraid of what I would find. Besides, ghosts should stay ghosts. We shouldn’t interact with them unless we want to become ghosts ourselves.

BOO!

Missing Fast Food

I was down near the Embarcardero Center today having finished an errand and I had the sudden craving for a Carl’s Jr burger. I knew there was a place nearby having gone to the fast food restaurant while working at a previous job.

I could already taste the triple decker burger as I headed to my destination, only to find the fast food chain gone. The horror! In place of Carl’s Jr. was a Mexican placed called Rubio’s. The place seemed packed which is good for them, but bad for me. Especially during the critical lunch hour. Time was ticking away.

The only place I knew in the area for a decent lunch was two blocks away; a sandwich place called Gambino’s NY Subs. Suprisingly, there wasn’t a line out the door like all the other times I’ve been there. I usually get the Boston Bulger with east coast-style condiments, but today I had to get back to the office so I went with the Italian. Either one is a good meal so I wasn’t disappointed.
