Shall the City prohibit City employees from serving on most Charter created boards and commissions?

Proposition C is pretty clear cut. The supporters of the proposition do not want city employees to staff commissions whose decisions may affect their department. The reasoning seems logical.

But, even if they hire non-city employees to staff the commission and boards, those hires will not be any more objective than the city employees. The hires will make decisions based on their experience with the subject matter and how the decision may affect their current life.

The only way to get an objective decision would be to hire someone outside of the City that has no affiliation with the subject matter nor any City employee. Very much doubtful that would work.

Also, the proposition only restricts City employees. It does not touch on persons employed by the various City departments. Those people could make decisions to benefit their company.

I will be voting no on Proposition C. Anyone who is qualified to staff a commission or a board should have the opportunity to apply for the position.
